奇联佳句异诗的英译

一、中英文对出"天下第一联"
上联：To China for china, China with china, dinner on china;
下联：到 前门 买 前门，前门 没 前门，后门 有 前门。
上联的译文是：
去 中国 购 瓷器，中国 有 瓷器，吃饭 靠 瓷器。

该联中，TO 对"到"，FOR对"买"，WITH对"没"，ON对"有"，CHI对
"前"，DIN对"后"，NA与NER同音对"门"。可谓天衣无缝，实乃妙对。
二、奇联的英译
其一
人曾是僧，人弗能成佛；
女卑为婢，女又可称奴。
上联是苏小妹出的，下联是佛印和尚对的。台湾译界名人钱歌川认为此联"决不能译"。 30年后，北大教授、诗词翻译家许渊冲破译了：
A Buddhist cannot bud into a Buddha;
A maiden maybe made a house maid.
许译当然是译意，不是译字；是神似，且大体形似。妙趣横生。
其二
海水朝朝朝朝朝朝朝落；
浮云长长长长长长长消。
翻译理论名家金隄和奈达译如下：
Sea waters tide, day to day tide, everyday tide and everyday ebb;
Floating clouds appear, often appear, often appear and often go.
古文中，长涨相通，朝潮也通；故该联应读如下：
海水潮朝朝潮朝潮朝落；
浮云涨长长涨长涨长消。
三、吴伟雄试译佳句
一城崛起，三线带动，五星争辉。（云浮市委提出的经济发展战略口号）
Let the municipal capital rise in development,
Three transport systems bring about advancement,
And five county divisions vie with each other
For even brighter economic future.
与君一席话，胜读十年书。

四、 一首奇形诗
诗词翻译家黄杲炘翻译过图形诗。原诗排成图形，译诗也排成图形，趣味横生。这里介绍的是一首他译的美国诗人 William Burford 的圣诞树诗( A Christmas Tree)，按居中排列，就见：树顶上有颗星，树下有树脚。请欣赏：

（黄杲炘注："Huddld"是对Huddled一字的故意误拼，为的是更显拥挤之状。）
