　　Learn Chinese and eat snakes

　　every day. We can make progress.

　　这吃蛇和学汉语也有关系了

　　Eat snakes is relative to learn Chinese.

　　今天把大家叫到一块

　　Today I've asked you to come

　　就是想说一说十二生肖当中的蛇

　　to chat about the snake of

　　the 12 symbolic animals.

　　这个就是蛇

　　This is the snake.

　　那蛇的汉字怎么写呢

　　How is the Chinese character

　　she (snake) written?

　　请看 左边是一个虫字

　　Look. On the left of the character

　　there's a chong (insect)

　　On the right there's a ta (it).

　　还有很多成语也是说蛇不好的

　　Many idioms also show a negative

　　image of the snakes,

　　比如说像

　　e.g. beigongsheying

　　mistake the reflection of

　　a bow in the cup for a snake;

　　如果一条小绿蛇啊

　　When a small green snake is

　　在草丛里来回游动的时候啊

　　zigzagging its way in the grass,

　　其实关于蛇的成语也有很多

　　In fact there're many idioms

　　about the snakes,

　　比如说像画蛇添足

　　e.g. draw a snake

　　比如说像我们今天这个蛇吧

　　For instance for the snake

　　如果我们现在在底下添了四个脚

　　if we add four feet to it,

　　in bed, under the bed,

　　or in the cabinet. What should he do?

　　干脆给深埋了吧 结果还怕别人知道

　　He decided to bury it. He was

　　afraid others would know this.

　　就贴出来告示去 此地无银三百两

　　So he put up a notice "The 300

　　taels of silver is not buried here".

　　结果被张三发现了

　　But Zhang San discovered this.

　　张三一看 此地无银三百两

　　Zhang San saw "The 300 taels of

　　silver is not buried here".

　　画蛇添足

　　"Draw a snake and add feet to it"

　　准是有 我去偷去

　　There must be silver here.

　　I'll go and steal it.

　　张三就给偷走了

　　Zhang San stole it.

　　偷走以后呢

　　After he stole it,

　　张三 唉呀 他不会想到我吧

　　Zhang San thought, "Could he

　　suspect me?"

　　不行 我不能让他怀疑我

　　No. I can't let him suspect me.

　　结果我得写一个告示

　　I should write a notice.

　　他就写出一个告示来

　　So he wrote a notice:

　　对面张三没有偷

　　Zhang San, the neighbor across
